Barela police nabbed an accused involved in illegal trade and transportation of liquor and seized eight cartons of foreign liquor loaded in Ertiga car from him. The arrested has been identified as Rahul Madhukar, son of Gudda Madhukar (24), resident of Bijhiya, Ambedkar Ward No. 10, Mandla district.
SHO of Barela police station, Anil Patel informed that on the night of October 26, 2025, police received a tip-off that an Ertiga car bearing registration number MP-20WA-6677 was illegally transporting liquor from Jabalpur towards Barela.
Acting promptly on the information, police set up a checkpoint near Silgor Bridge on the highway. When the suspected vehicle approached from Jabalpur, it was intercepted. On inquiry, the driver identified himself as Rahul Madhukar of Mandla.
Upon searching the vehicle, police found 8 cartons containing various brands of English liquor 48 quarters of Royal Stag, 48 quarters of Bacardi Black, 48 quarters of MD Rum, 48 quarters of Bacardi Lemon, 12 bottles of Old Monk, 96 quarters of Old Monk in two cartons and another carton with 12 more bottles of Old Monk collectively valued at approximately Rs 83,760.
The liquor and the Ertiga car MP-20WA-6677 used for transportation were seized.
Barela police have registered a case against the accused under Section 34(2) of the Excise Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and supplier of the seized liquor.
Illegal consignment was seized with active working of police team comprised of Sub-Inspector KP Jharia and Head Constable Suman Pandey.
