Cleanliness work on in and around Deekshabhoomi.

A well-oiled machinery of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is working over time to clean the Deekshabhoomi and surroundings areas post completion of 69th Dhammachakra Pravartan Din programme. Lakhs of followers of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar converge in city for the annual event. This year, people started arriving at Deekshabhoomi to pay respects to urn containing Dr Ambedkar’s ashes inside the dome. Given continuous flow of people, NMC formed special team that ensured that all the waste is processed in real time.
Several team worked round the clock to ensure the people do not face any inconvenience. NMC cell at Deekshabhoomi kept track of the team and help co-ordinate so that the work goes on without having any effect on the programme.
part from the main programme on the evening of Dussehra, several small events are held at the ground and also at various pandals on South Ambazari Road and near Dr Ambedkar College.
Post completion of the programme, the NMC team was split into small groups and sent to the earmarked area for the pre-assigned works. The area of Mata Kacheri, ITI, Social Welfare Office, Jail DIG Bungalow campus, Kurvey’s High School, were thoroughly cleaned. Also, a team went to Ambazari Lake where many people normally go for bathing.
The Solid Waste Management Department team had the real task of cleaning and transporting the waste and other litter from the area around Deekshabhoomi. The adjoining Laxmi Nagar, Bajaj Nagar, Vasant Nagar localities were sprinkled with disinfectants. About 650 workers worked round the clock and cleaned the streets and footpaths. To aid them, 42 big vehicles were deployed to ferry the garbage and take it to Bhandewadi Dumping Yard. Similarly, 200 temporary dustbins were also placed at strategic places in the area for the convenience of followers.
Jawans of NDS were deployed in shift duties to direct the people and avoid dumping of any leftovers on footpaths or streets. About 120 temporary water taps were affixed in and around Deekshabhoomi.
Four jetting machines were in use to clean the toilets and septic tanks in the area. NMC also used its fleet of city buses to ferry the followers from railway stations to Deekshabhoomi and back and also for a visit to Dragon Palace, Kamptee. Team led by Additional Municipal Commissioner Vasumana Pant and Vaishnavi B along with Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat, Milind Meshram, along with Chief Sanitation Officer Dr Gajendra Mahalle supervised the cleanliness drive.
