Cherish what you have

One common phenomenon that I have begun to notice among my peers is ‘depression’. Fun fact is that our parents’ generation didn’t even know that much about words like anxiety, depression, trauma and so on... but these terms have now become the fancy labels for every small emotion that the teens of today go through. I was recently talking to a young girl when she said, “I’m feeling anxiety bro!” My life is so sad and I am stressed all the time.” I returned home and thought about it for a while and this is what I now want to tell her: We all have our share of problems, but aren’t we still better off? Look at the man sleeping on the footpath with an empty pocket and empty stomach. Look at the young women and girls seeking alms at the traffic signals.

If you are in depression, what should be their state of mind? Today, when people get saddened if they have to repeat a dress to a party often forget that there are so many children out there without two pairs of clothing or even one footwear. This is the generation where people stress over not having the latest model of a phone rather than thanking his/her starts that they have a phone at the first place. It is not about what you wear, which products you use, which skincare routine you follow etc. It is all about how big your heart is.

If you feed a beggar, for him you will be like God. And that will most likely bring you more satisfaction than buying the latest gadget. Lesser the expectation, more the joy. So, I strongly believe that we should be grateful for the life given to us by our parents. Always remember, “Life is too short, so live it without regrets, share with people, make memories, find beauty in everything because...Yeh Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
