Actor Priyanshu alias Babu Ravisingh Chhetri (22), who had played an important role in Nagraj Manjule’s film ‘Jhund’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, was brutally murdered in Jaripatka area in the early hours of Wednesday. According to police, Babu Chhetri was tied with wires and attacked with a sharp weapon. He was found half-naked, with a plastic wire wrapped around his body, under the jurisdiction of Jaripatka Police Station. Local residents noticed him lying in a severely injured condition at 3 am on Wednesday and immediately informed the police. Chhetri was rushed to Mayo Hospital where doctors declared him dead during treatment.

 

The accused has been identified as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu (20), a resident of Nara area, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The deceased, Babu Chhetri, was a resident of Lumbini Nagar. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 6) Dr Sandip Pakhale said that Chhetri and Sahu were close friends and often consumed liquor together. On Tuesday night, Sahu visited Chhetri’s house on a two-wheeler, and the two went out for a drinking session at a dilapidated house nearby. During the session, a heated argument broke out between them between 12 midnight and 2 am. Chhetri reportedly threatened to kill Sahu, which made Sahu fear for his life.

 

In a fit of rage, he attacked and killed Chhetri before fleeing the spot. Police officials revealed that both Chhetri and Sahu had several criminal cases registered against them in the past, including theft and assault. Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder was the result of a personal dispute or old enmity. Jaripatka Police have registered a case of murder. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the killing. The incident has caused grief among local residents and those who knew Babu Chhetri for his performance in the film ‘Jhund’.
