PUNE men and Mumbai South West women were crowned champions of the CM Chashak 75th Maharashtra State Senior Basketball championship at DKM court on Friday.
In women’s summit clash, Mumbai South West pipped Mumbai South East 64-63 in a closely contested match. The quarter-wise scores were 3-20, 16-25, 19-11, 16-7.
Nisha Sharma (20) and Riya Kunghadkar (17) scored the maximum points for the winners, while for South East Gayathri S (14) and Ishika Gahlot (11) scored points.
Pune men dominated Mumbai Central 91-66 in a high scoring tie. Pune lost the first quarter 18-23 but bounced back in the second quarter 36-15.
They won the third quarter 4-14 but lost the final quarter by 13-14. Pune’s Yousuf Sayyed (32) was unstoppable along with Ojas Ambedkar (24), while for Mumbai Central Subin Vel (18) scored maximum points.
Earlier, both Nagpur men and women won their respective bronze medals matches.
In the men’s bronze medal match, Nagpur kept their dominance alive in all quarters to beat Mumbai South East 82-54. Nagpur won the first quarter 19-16, and then took the second quarter 20-16.
South East fought back in the third quarter trying to reduce the lead but lost 20-19. The fourth quarter was won by Nagpur
12-11.
Tanuk Gurnule (18), Kislay Rai (15), Siddhesh Kulkarni (10), Yash Jivtode (10) and Saurabh Mankar (8) did most of the scoring for the hosts, while for visitors, Jay Kumar (17) and Faiz Shaikh (8) made the basket.
City women demolished Pune in their bronze medal match 82-54. Dhara Phate (25) and Swati Wankhede (20) were unstoppable with the ball, Siya Deodhar (16) too contributed in the scoring spree.
Nagpur won the first quarter with ease 17-6, but Pune fought back brilliantly for a close 21-20 second quarter.
Nagpur won the next two quarters 19-5, 25-13.
Mansi Nirmalkar (18), Chaitali Bafna (12) and Tvishaa Sharma (12) did the majority of the scoring for Pune.
All semi-finalists players and coaches were awarded with cash prizes along with mementos and trophies to the top three
finishers. A total prize pool of Rs 1,27,500 was distributed in cash.
Every member of the champion team got richer by Rs 2000. While the runners up team members recieved Rs 1000.
The team members winning bronze medal were richer by Rs 750 each and the team finishing fourth got Rs 500.
Prizes were distributed by Sarita Prakash Rajurkar. Devyani Joshi presided over the concluding ceremony in the presence of MSBA Secretary Govind Mutthukumar, NDBA Working President Abhay Kaplay and Raju Mahajan the founder of DKM.
