Fly-over saves your time but in exchange increases risks for mainly two wheeler riders
Given the increase in speed of vehicles and highly sophisticated driving system, time has come to review the heights of railings affixed on parapet walls on fly-overs for added safety of the riders. Smaller height of railing on s on fly-overs in city has turned into a life threatening zone for commuters. Fly-overs are meant to save time, reduce traffic and stress of the rider while travelling. Daily the number of vehicles on roads are increasing, means the density of traffic on fly-overs automatically increase, so there are calls for enhanced safety measures for a reassuring drive.
Commuters heading towards Manish Nagar, Ajni, Laxmi Nagar, Sitabuldi and other areas use the fly-overs on Wardha Road and Kamptee road ahead frequently.
This increases the number of vehicles travelling at a time, resulting in traffic snarls and less space for two-wheeler riders. Major risk is for the two-wheeler riders as there are more chances of them accidentally falling off from the fly-over as the height of side railings is not adequate. The height of these railings needs to be raised before any major mishap, says experts.
They are necessary owing to mixed vehicular density on the Indian roads.
The mixed horse power of vehicles means those smaller in size and speed are more at risk of getting edged to a corner of fly-over that necessitates safer height of railing on the parapet wall.
Manish Chauhan, a daily commuter said, " I am always scared while negotiating the fly-overs, more so during the night as due to less visibility and more number of vehicles there is constant fear of falling from the fly-over. You may not be driving recklessly but you cannot be sure about the other person riding vehicle next to you. Sometimes others create a problem which you thought could never happen."
Safety of the commuters should always be the priority for the authorities.
Commuters and citizens desire attention from the authorities before any commuter loses his life.
