VIDARBHA crushed Karnataka by 125 runs in the Elite Group D match of the U-23 State ‘A’ Trophy in Jaipur on Tuesday.
Asked to bat, Vidarbha piled up a mammoth 350-9 in their 50 overs before dismissing Karnataka for 225 in 41.1 overs to register a comprehensive win.
Vidarbha owed their big score to their opener Vedant Dighade and captain Mohd Faiz, who both hit centuries.
The duo added 216 runs in 194 balls for the second wicket to demoralise Karnataka bowlers. Dighade made 120 (102 balls) with six boundaries and as many sixes while Faiz’s 122 came off 115 balls and included 10 boundaries and three sixes.
Karnataka lost early wickets in the chase and were 72-5 at one stage before Dhruv Prabhakar and Hardik Raj (42) added 89 runs for the sixth wicket. Following Raj’s dismissal, Prabhakar got little support from the tailenders and was the last man out for 126.
Sanskar Chavate (4-39) was Vidarbha’s most successful bowler, while Jagjot Sasan, Pratham Maheshwari and Arjun Ingle scalped two wickets apiece.
Brief scores: Vidarbha 350-9 in 50 overs (V Dighade 120, M Faiz 122; Manvath Kumar 4-60) beat Karnataka 225 all out in 41.1 overs (D Prabhakar 126, H Raj 42; S Chavate 4-39, P Maheshwari 2-29, J Sasan 2-44, A Ingle 2-46) by 125 runs.
