The State capital is experiencing a severe cold wave this year, breaking records from previous years. The city’s minimum temperature has dropped to 5.2 C, leading to an intense cold wave, thick fog, and frost in the mornings. Sending children to school before 8 am had become a significant challenge for parents and a health risk for students.
Health risk to children due to cold: In light of the continually falling temperatures and increasing cold, the district administration has prioritised the health protection of young students by immediately changing the school operating hours.
District Education Officer (DEO) N K Ahirwar issued an order on Monday clarifying that all classes from Nursery to Class 8th will not be allowed to operate before 8:30 am.
This decision was taken because the extreme cold and morning chill significantly increase the risk of children contracting pneumonia, common cold, flu, and viral infections.
Order applies to all educational institutions: The issued order explicitly states that the new time schedule is mandatory for all educational institutions in the Bhopal district.
This includes Government, non-Government (private) schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, ICSE, CBSE, grant-in-aid, and all other recognised schools.
This crucial decision has become effective following the Collector’s approval and is considered immediately implementable.
The administration has instructed that this new arrangement will remain in effect until a significant
improvement is noted in the weather, thereby protecting young children from the severe morning cold. Strict directives to ensure
compliance: The DEO has issued strict directives to all Block Education Officers (BEOs) and School Principals to ensure 100% compliance with this order. The administration has warned that any school violating the order will face strict action as per the rules.
The administration has also made an earnest appeal to all parents to prioritise their children’s health given the weather.
They have been advised to send their children to school wearing multiple layers of warm clothing, including caps, mufflers, and gloves.
