The Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) is observing the ‘Annual Mine Safety Fortnight 2025’ across its all 47 mines between November 17 and December 1. The event was inaugurated at WCL headquarters on Monday by Anand Prasad, Director, Technical – Operations / Projects & Planning. The occasion was graced by the presence of Director (Human Resources) Dr Hemant Sharad Pande, Coal India Safety Board Member C J Joseph, Operations Committee Member S R Gabale, General Manager (Safety & Rescue) Dinesh Bisen, and all heads of departments from the WCL Headquarters.
It is being held under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).
During this fortnight, WCL mines will be inspected by multidisciplinary teams drawn from other mining areas of WCL.
This cross-functional approach will ensure objectivity, knowledge sharing, and a unified focus on excellence in safety standards.
The aim of the fortnight is to promote a culture of safety, vigilance, and continuous improvement in mining operations.
For the ‘Annual Mine Safety Fortnight ’, bench and dump slope stability, along with the safe storage, transportation, and use of explosives in mines,
have been identified as the key focus areas.
