Hawk Force Inspector Ashish Sharma attained martyrdom during an encounter with Naxalites near Bor Talab in Balaghat on Wednesday. A joint operation was conducted on Wednesday by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
This information was confirmed by Director General, Anti-Naxal Operations Pankaj Srivastava.
It has been reported that upon receiving information about Naxalite hideouts near Bor Talab, located on the border between the three states, a police party arrived there.
A Naxalite group opened fire. Ashish Sharma who was leading the team, was shot in the ensuing exchange of fire. His companions immediately took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
The deceased officer Ashish Sharma, was a resident of Gadarwara in Narsinghpur district. He was selected for the rank of Sub-Inspector (SI) in 2016 and prior to it he served as Constable in Intelligence Department.
He received an out-of-turn promotion from the Madhya Pradesh government as a reward for his encounter with Naxalites.
He received two gallantry medals from the Government of India in the last two years. Family friends said his marriage was fixed and was to take place in January.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, paying tribute to Ashish Sharma on his social media account wrote, “Today, Inspector Ashish Sharma of the MP Hawk Force was martyred in an encounter with Naxalites. I offer my humble tribute to him. My condolences are with the bereaved family. He displayed unprecedented valour and courage during an anti-Naxal operation conducted by a joint team of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra in the forests of Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.
His supreme sacrifice in the national campaign to eradicate Naxalism will always be unforgettable. He was previously awarded the gallantry medal twice by the Govt of India for displaying indomitable courage and exceptional bravery in the line of duty.”
