CHHATTISGARH women fencing team clinched bronze medal in the 36th Senior National Fencing Championship held at New Delhi from November 15 to 19. The women fencers brought pride to the state in the Foil event losing to Tamil Nadu on the final day of the competition.

 

Fencers representing different states across the country competed in various categories. Chhattisgarh women’s Foil team had a neck-to-neck contest with Maharashtra in the quarterfinal, securing victory by 45–39 points. In the semifinal, the team fought hard but had to be satisfied with third place losing to Tamil Nadu by 35–45 points.

 

The bronze medal winning team consisted of Divyanshu Netam and Deepanshi Netam (Bhilai), Maya Sahu (Durg) and Lavanya Sahu (Raipur). Chhattisgarh senior fencing squad was coached by Praveen Kumar and Mohnish Verma.
