The last rites of Inspector Ashish Sharma, martyred in Naxal encounter in Balaghat, was performed with full State honours. He was given a State funeral at the ground across from Muktidham in his native village, Bohani, Narsinghpur. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav paid tributes to the martyr at the funeral. Cabinet ministers Prahlad Singh Patel and Uday Pratap Singh were present at the funeral.
 
Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari and Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar also paid tribute to the martyr. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Minister Prahlad Patel shouldered the martyr’s body. His body was carried to the funeral pyre. Earlier, a condolence procession was held in Balaghat on Thursday morning. The mortal remains arrived home in the afternoon.
 
The family is inconsolable and a pall of gloom descended over the village. More than 5,000 people had gathered to bid an emotional farewell to the martyr. He was shot in an encounter with the Naxalites. Anti-Naxal Operations Director General Pankaj Srivastava stated that Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh conducted a joint operation on Wednesday. Information was received about Naxalite hideouts near Bor Talab, a border area between the three states. On arrival, police encountered the Naxalites.
 
Inspector Ashish Sharma, who was leading the team, was shot. He was taken to the hospital in an injured condition, where doctors declared him dead.
