A fresh drop in temperatures tightened the grip of winter over Madhya Pradesh, with several districts reporting cold wave conditions. Pachmarhi recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the State at 5.8°C, followed by Rajgarh at 8.0°C, Girwar (Shajapur) at 8.3°C, Indore at 8.4°C and Nowgong (Chhatarpur) at 8.5°C.
In contrast, the warmest night was observed in Kannod (Dewas) at 15.6°C, followed by Seoni at 14.2°C, Bhairunda (Sehore) at 14.1°C, Sagar/Narmadapuram at 14.0°C and Agar at 13.9°C.
Cold wave conditions prevailed in Bhopal, Rajgarh, Indore, Khandwa, Shajapur and Narsinghpur, while Khargone experienced a severe cold wave. Narsinghpur also recorded a cold day with the lowest maximum temperature in the state at 23.4°C. Amarkantak (23.8°C), Malanjkhand (24.0°C), Chitrakoot (24.6°C) and Pachmarhi (25.6°C) also remained among the coolest during the day. Ujjain was the warmest with a maximum of 29.5°C.
The State witnessed dry weather in the last 24 hours, with no rainfall reported from any district. Winds in Bhopal blew at a light speed of 6-8 kmph. IMD has forecast a gradual rise of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures over the next four days.
According to the synoptic situation, a persistent upper air cyclonic circulation over the central parts of the Strait of Malacca is likely to give rise to a low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea on November 22. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards, intensifying into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 24, with further strengthening likely over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours.
While distant, the system may indirectly influence weather patterns across central India.
Bhopal continued to reel under cold wave conditions as the morning minimum dipped to 9.6°C, which is 4.8°C below normal. Humidity stood at 88% in the morning, adding a mild chill to the morning hours. The maximum temperature, recorded at 27.0°C, was 2.1°C below normal. Skies are expected to remain clear with haze, accompanied by light winds between 6–8 kmph. The forecast suggests a maximum of around 28°C and a minimum near 10°C by Saturday morning. No rainfall is expected, and the weather is likely to remain dry.
Residents have been advised to stay warm during early mornings and late evenings, as cold wave conditions may persist.
Cold wave alerts remain in effect for isolated parts of Bhopal, Sehore, Rajgarh, Khandwa, Khargone, Indore and Shajapur, while Narsinghpur may continue to face both cold wave and cold day conditions. Officials have urged citizens to take necessary precautions and farmers to safeguard crops and livestock from the intensified cold.
