SDO issues notices to 523 property owners, allotting them specific date to appear for final hearing relating to distribution of compensation as per final award  Property owners on Old Bhandara Road will be getting compensation out of Rs 252 crore allotted for land acquisition. Sub Divisional Officer, Nagpur City, has issued notices to property owners directing them to attend the final hearing on scheduled dates, from November 24 to December 2. The proceedings relate to completing acquisition of properties for widening Old Bhandara Road from Mayo Hospital T-point till Sunil Hotel as it enters the last leg, as administration is keen to wrap-up yet another major land acquisition work.

The proceedings relating to completing the acquisition for widening of Old Bhandara Road has now gathered pace with Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) asking property owners to submit ownership records plus bank details to help complete the ongoing process of disbursal of compensation. SDO Suresh Bagle has published the schedule for dispensation of compensation and set the final date as December 2, 2025. The district administration is starting the procedure of noting down the final details as per sheet numbers, starting from November 24 onwards. SDO Suresh Bagle stated that final award regarding acquisition of 523 properties has been passed and individual property owners have been notified about the same on November 17 itself.

As per Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, each of the property owner is eligible for compensation as per sub-section 37 (2) of Rule 2013. The respective property owners have to submit Aadhar card, PAN card, Bank passbook, property documents (sale deed), property card (Akhiv Patrika), and submit the same to office of SDO, Nagpur City, near District Superintendent of Police office, adjacent to Providence Girl School, Civil Lines. As is known, the road stretch from Mayo Hospital T-point to Old Bhandara Road Motor Stand is to be widened to 30 meters and thereafter from Bagdadiya Square to Sunil Hotel to 18 meters.

The Old Bhandara Road bisects through the busy wholesale market area of city. As these markets are located in old city area, the roads are narrow and with passage of time, the markets have become congested, that troubles the citizens and shoppers alike. When the IRDP scheme was floated, Old Bhandara Road was also proposed to be widened but since the ground work relating to acquisition was not taken up, the work could not take off while other road listed during the same time were completed.

Frustrated with inordinate delay, Madhya Nagpur Vikas Aghadi went to Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench seeking judicial direction for administration to start road widening work on Old Bhandara Road. A petition was filed by Bhushan Dadwe and Ravindra Paigwar following which Court directed administration act fast and complete the process. However the land acquisition being tedious and complicated one, the administration took its own time to complete the ground work.

Only post push on part of MLA Pravin Datke, the process gathered pace and now has reached the last leg. Earlier, the SDO released the list of properties identified post joint measurement for acquisition. It is comprehensive document mentioning sheet no. plus names of property owners, total land on Old Bhandara Road and one that is to be acquired, and the compensation amount finalised. A substantial amount to property owners is interest that has accumulated since passing of award due to delay in completing the process.
