Tightening noose on vehicles violating safety norms, Road Transport Department’s teams have seized 35 school vehicles, on Saturday. RTO has started the special campaign under the directives of Collector Raghavendra Singh for ensuring safety of school children. As per the directions, a surprise inspection drive of school vehicles was launched under the leadership of Regional Transport Officer
 
(RTO) Jitendra Raghuvanshi. The campaign was initiated with a strong focus on ensuring the safety of school children and taking strict action against vehicles operating in violation of transport norms. During this special inspection drive, the department found that several vehicles were being operated without mandatory documents such as fitness certificates, insurance and permits.
 
Additionally, multiple cases of unauthorised modifications, including illegal LPG kits, extra seating arrangements, and overloading of school children, putting their lives at risk were detected. Taking immediate strict action on the spot, Transport Department seized a total of 35 vehicles, including 2 school buses, 15 Omni vans and 18 autos/e-rickshaws and moved them to the RTO premises.
 
As per Collector Raghavendra Singh’s instructions, preparations are now underway to completely ban Maruti vans fitted with LPG kits from being used for school transportation. School operators and vehicle owners have been given one month to comply with the required safety standards.
 
RTO has also issued notices to all schools in the city, directing them to allow only those vehicles for student transportation that fully meeting all prescribed norms and safety conditions. The department emphasized that any compromise with children’s safety will not be tolerated and the inspection drive will continue in the coming days.
