Firdos Munir Khan
By Apoorva Methi :
It is said that hard work and determination can turn fortunes around and this has been proven by a young, tenacious woman from Gondia, Firdos Munir Khan. With her efforts, commitment and confidence over self, she has taken the big leap from from being a sanitation worker to becoming Office Superintendent.
Firdos had served as sanitation worker at District Court in Gondia for four years and now, she has been appointed as Office Superintendent at Tribal Development Department in Palghar.
Talking about her journey from a Class IV worker to Class II officer with ‘The Hitavada’, Firdos insisted that no work is big or small, what maters is the dedication in doing the work.
Firdos had it going tough from early age. Second among three sisters, she lost her parents when she was just 9 years old. Her father Munir Khan had a small business in Nagpur and mother Mumtaz was a housewife.
After their death, the girls went to stay with their aunt Mariyam Bi in Wardha, where they were looked after with utmost care and love, but the absence of parents always ached their heart.
Having seen struggle early in life, the three sisters were well aware of the importance of time and money. Every year, they would save the ‘Jakat’ money and use it for their studies.
Firdos completed her Masters in Social Work from New Arts and Commerce College, Wardha, and then started looking for work.
Not wanting to remain dependent on her aunt anymore, she appear for an examination and got selected at sanitation workers at the District Court in Gondia.
She took up the job and worked from December 27, 2021
to November 18, 2025, but, at the same time, she spent all her spare time after duty hours studying.
Firdos appeared for the examination for the
post of Superintendent’s in Tribal Development Department in February this year, results of which were announced in June and she recently received her appointment letter.
It may be mentioned here that Firdos’ elder sister Rabiya Khan is a housewife and younger sister Rubina Khan is serving as Inspector in Sales Tax Department at Nagpur.
“Time is priceless and people should realise this. Time spent on phones and social media is a waste.
That time should be used for something creative and constructive,” advised Firdos. She gives credit to her success to her elder sister who she said used to take tution classes and collect whatever money she could for the sisters’ ducation.Meanwhile, Firdos is not the one to stop here. She has bigger dreams. Now she is preparing for her research work. “I want to do something good for people in the unorganised sector. Even though Government is working on skill development projects, not many people are getting benefits they are struggling to earn their livelihood. I want to do something for that section to get them a sustainable livelihood.”
