Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) leader and Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule on Sunday said the Election Commission of India must monitor remarks by the leaders of various parties. She was interacting with mediapersons in Nagpur on Sunday at Patrakar Club of Nagpur. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had connected development funds to voter support. During campaigning for Malegaon Nagar Panchayat in Baramati tehsil of Pune district, Ajit Pawar had said he would see to it that funds will be provided if their candidates won.
“We have faith in the Election Commission. That doesn’t mean, no monitoring should be done when such statements are made. In the last few years, people are not satisfied by the way EC has been functioning,” pointed out Sule.
Sule termed the split in her party as a bad trend. She said, “The split did not take place, it was made to happen by certain elements. I have differences with BJP but I have always seen BJP as a cultured party. In fact, I learned several things from Atal Behari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and others.
Expressing her views on the functioning of Government, Sule commented, “Every Government does some or the other good work. Some decisions are really good. For example, Union Water Resources Minister C R Patil has done excellent work in ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’.
Though he is of BJP, we admire him. Our stand is to admire good work. Unfortunately, the current Government in State focusses more on infrastructure projects.
‘Salil Deshmukh
will campaign’
Reacting on the issue of resignation of Salil Deshmukh from the party, Supriya Sule said, “His father Anil Deshmukh has contributed a lot and Salil has as well. He will not join other party and you will soon him campaigning for us.” City President Duneshwar Pethe, District President Pravin Kunte, ex-MLC Prakash Gajbhiye, Varsha Shamkule and others were present.
