VELLORE Institute of Technology (VIT) has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing 7th rank in India and 352nd position globally in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026. In the Environmental Impact category, VIT has further distinguished itself by ranking 194th globally. Announcing the achievement, Dr G Viswanathan, Chancellor VIT, said, “The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026 has been released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In this dedicated sustainability category — which forms part of the QS World University Rankings — institutions are evaluated across eight performance lenses: Equality, Knowledge Exchange, Impact of Education, Employability and Opportunities, Health and Well-being, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Education, Environmental Research, and Social Impact.”

 

VIT has scored an impressive overall 74.9, propelling it to 352nd place globally and 7th position among Indian institutions. The university has shown outstanding performance particularly in the three categories of Social Impact, Environmental Impact, and Governance. A standout highlight is VIT’s score of 78.1 in Environmental Impact, earning it the 194th rank globally. This represents a significant leap forward — from 396th position globally in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2025 to 352nd in 2026, an upward jump of 44 places.
