CHAOS was witnessed in front of police control room when the members of Hindu Groups and SC-ST, OBC Organisations confronted and attacked each other under the jurisdiction of Omti police station. Pointing out the gravity of situation, additional police force was deployed and light cane charge was carried out to disperse the agitated crowd. A dispute over a book in Jabalpur on Sunday escalated into a confrontation on Tuesday between Hindu organisations and groups.

Hindu leaders had reached the SP office to submit a memorandum demanding action against the author of the contentious book. Police assured them that the matter would be investigated. Meanwhile, SC-ST and OBC groups arrived at Omti police station, calling the allegations against their MLA and workers baseless. Shortly after leaving the SP office, Hindu organisation workers received information that SCST and OBC activists were present at Omti police station. Soon, several individuals, some with their faces covered and carrying sticks, arrived at the station along with women supporters.

Both groups confronted each other at the police station premises. Despite police attempts to restrain them demonstrators attacked each other with canes. A few women associated with the Hindu organisations were seen wielding sticks in front of police officers. Police eventually brought the situation under control and dispersed the crowd. Members of SC-ST and OBC organisations alleged that masked individuals forcibly entered the police station and created chaos.

CSP Ritesh Kumar Shiv said that Hindu groups had submitted their memorandum at SP office and were assured of an investigation. Similarly, SC-ST and OBC groups were also assured that their complaints would be addressed at the Omti police station. He confirmed that a group of masked youths and women carrying sticks reached the station from the Ghantaghar side. Police managed to control the situation promptly preventing any serious incident. Based on the complaint of the SC-ST and OBC organisations, police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons.

The complaint alleges that some people attempted to assault them with sticks and a sword. CCTV footage from the incident is being examined. For now, the FIR is against unknown accused.
