A meeting of Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Maharashtra State Legislature is slated on December 1 to finalise the schedule and agenda for the forthcoming Winter Session to be held in Nagpur, the second capital of the State. The meeting will be held at Vidhan Bhavan complex at Mumbai from 2.30 pm onwards. The meeting is going to discuss the time-table for starting the Winter Session and its schedule. As per current plan, the Winter Session of both Houses of State Legislature might be a 10-day affair, with probable commencement from December 8 as announced earlier.

The most important business that is transacted during Winter Session is that of passage of supplementary grants, as it is one of the most important on the agenda. Also, the Appropriation Bill relating to finances are also tabled in the session. Although as of now, the dates for Zilla Parishad and Municipal Corporation elections are not yet announced, the BAC is going to take the same into consideration while deciding the business to be transacted in both the Houses. The election date might be announced by end of November once Supreme Court decides on the OBC reservation issues that is pending for hearing.

Apex Court will be holding hearing on Friday and the double bench headed by Chief Justice of India might provide a clear path for State Election Commission to go ahead with finalisation of election scheduled for ZP and Corporations. The political parties are betting on mid-January election so that would not hinder any plans of State Government to announce policy decisions in Winter Session. A major aspect that may be taken up in the session would relate to losses suffered by farmers due to intensive rains. Already, State Government has announced Rs 32,000 crore plus package to compensate the farmers.
