Why do the authorities take action only after a big incident?
Residents of Subhash Nagar are raising this question daily as their voice is being ignored

A serene residential area in South West Nagpur Assembly segment is facing threat of hooligans who are out to disrupt the peace of the citizens due to their nefarious activities. The citizens of Prabhu Poornima Apartments and adjoining houses are facing the nuisance since last many days. Despite constant complaints to local authorities, the situation on the ground continues to trouble the locals in the area. The posh area lies on Trimurti Nagar-Ambazari link road in NELCO Society. Mukul Dhabu, a local businessman, who operates his office from a shop within the building premises, has raised an urgent issue.

‘The Hitavada’ visited the spot to analyse the issue, where Mukul revealed that he had repeatedly approached the authorities, but officials refused to take any action or file an FIR, leaving residents helpless and exposed to escalating disorder. According to the written complaint submitted by Dhabu to multiple authorities, the road, beside the apartment, opp of Jaibhole Restaurant, has turned into a hotspot for constant anti-social activities and public littering till late night. Throughout the day and late into the night, groups of people gather here and create severe health hazards for shop owners, staff and the nearly two dozen residential families living in the building and adjoining units. Dhabu mentioned the cause of the problem, as miscreants purchase liquor from the nearby shop and stay put in the vicinity to disturb and harass other citizens near the premises of the building and this process starts by 8 pm and continues till 1 am.

People fear to cross the street as a group of 15-20 miscreants regularly park their vehicles and sit on it to drink alcohol everyday in the open. He shared an incident where a intoxicated miscreant entered his office without permission and when Dhabu and his staff asked him to leave, he called his friend and picked up a fight. Somehow, they managed to make them leave but this incident highlights that it is very unsafe for the people in the vicinity to this alcoholic group. The problem intensifies in the evening when groups of miscreants gather for anti-social activities, they use extremely abusive language and start fighting when asked to leave, creating an atmosphere of fear, said the residents while sharing their ordeal with ‘The Hitavada’. Dhabu also states that it has become unsafe for staff, customers and residents to access the area without intimidation.

A particularly distressing revelation concerns an elderly widow living just in front of the place nuisance is occurring. She informed Mukul that the staircase leading to his office is regularly misused by drunk individuals for consuming liquor late into the night. The family, including young grandchildren, is forced to endure continuous abusive language and live in fear. Residents must clean broken liquor bottles, plastic cups, tobacco waste and even vomit every morning, highlighting the collapse of basic civic order. Dhabu and the residents have urged the authorities to declare the stretch as a No-Smoking Zone, enforce strict penalties, conduct undercover cops for days to witness the reality firsthand and ensure permanent sanitation and regular patrolling. He has also appealed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, stating that it is deeply concerning that such unchecked nuisance thrives within the CM’s own constituency. Residents now await urgent intervention to restore basic safety, hygiene and peace in Subhash Nagar-NELCO Society area.
