Staff Reporter :
PUBLIC Works Minister Rakesh

inspection of the under-construction Khargone Bypass on
National Highway 347 in
Khargone district on Wednesday.
The inspection was attended by
Chief Engineer B P Borasi, Indore
Circle Chief Engineer C S Kharat,
Chief Engineer (Buildings)
Surendra Rao Gaurkhede, and
Superintending Engineer
Mayank Shukla.
During the inspection, measurements revealed that the Dense
Bituminous Macadam (DBM)
thickness at four locations met
the required standards.
However,
compaction was found to be
unsatisfactory, and stones used
on the shoulder exceeded the
prescribed 50 mm size limit, indicating substandard work.
Samples of various construction
materials were collected for quality testing, revealing that prescribed standards were not being
followed in supplying construction bags.
Reacting to the serious lapses, Minister Singh immediately
ordered strict action. The incharge Superintending Engineer
of the Khargone Laboratory, Vijay
Singh Pawar, has been suspended with immediate effect.
Directions have also been issued
to the Chief Engineer of National
Highways to take action against
the concerned Assistant
Engineer.
Additionally, the supervision consultant ICON has been
instructed to face action due to
irregularities observed at the construction site.
Minister Singh emphasised
that there will be no compromise on quality in any road
project, including national
highways.
He warned that any departmental negligence will be dealt
with firmly and immediately,
holding responsible officers
and agencies accountable for
maintaining construction
standards.
