VIDARBHA girls held their nerves to edge out Madhya Pradesh by just one run in their U-23 Women’s T20 Trophy match in Chandigarh on Thursday. Vidarbha captain Riddhi Naik top-scored with 36 after winning the toss and electing to bat. She, however, got little support from the other end as Vidarbha’s middle-order once again failed to fire. A brisk unbeaten 35 by No 7 Prerna Randive helped Vidarbha put up a fighting score of 126-6 in their 20 overs. Prerna hit three boundaries and a six in her 22-ball knock.

Madhya Pradesh lost an early wicket in the chase but Aayushi Shukla (21) and Anushka Sharma (33) batted sensibly to steady the ship. However, once both fell, their required run rate went up. Vidarbha bowlers, led by Vedanti Salodkar (3-32) tightened the screws and choked MP. Aayushi Thakre and Trupti Lodhe came up with a couple of fine overs each to squeeze out a one-run win. Vidarbha now have 8 points from three matches in Elite Group A. Brief scores: Vidarbha: 126-6 in 20 overs (Riddhi Naik 36, Prerna Randive 35*) beat Madhya Pradesh 125-7 in 20 overs (Anushka Sharma 33; Vedanti Salodkar 3-32) by 1 run.
