VIT UNIVERSITY VIOLENCE: CM Dr Yadav takes toughstand, orders review after students fall ill, arson erupts

CHIEF Minister Dr Mohan Yadav
has taken strict cognizance of the
incident at VIT University, Kothri,
Sehore district, where students fell
ill due to contaminated food, leading to a violent protest and an
arson incident. The Chief Minister
acted immediately, ordering swift
and stringent action.
Emphasising the health and safety of students as the highest priority, he also ordered a policy
review to prevent the recurrence
of such incidents.
Taking note of
the VIT case, CM Yadav directed
Krishna Gaur, the Minister Incharge of the Sehore district, to
immediately visit the campus and
establish a dialogue with the students and the management. He
posted on social media that
Higher Education Minister Inder
Singh Parmar has been asked to
conduct a high-level review of
private universities and educational institutions.
The purpose
of this review is to identify and
swiftly resolve issues related to student welfare. He also instructed
district administration officials
to immediately resolve the issues
concerning food and water quality. In-Charge Minister conducts
on-site investigation: Following
the CM’s directive, Backward
Classes Welfare Minister Krishna
Gaur reached the VIT campus on
Thursday.
She held discussions
with the administration, police
officials and students. Speaking
to the media, Minister Gaur stated clearly that the incident was
unfortunate and occurred
because the management failed
to heed the students’ demands.
She cited management negligence as the main reason for the
incident. Administrative and
Departmental Actions: Vacation
Announced: Minister Gaur
instructed the college management to declare a few days of
vacation so that students could
rest and the situation could normalise.
Food Sampling: Following
students’ complaints, the Public
Health Engineering Department
(PHE) collected water samples,
and the Food Department collected food samples. Health and
Security: The Minister instructed Collector Balaguru K and
Superintendent of Police Deepak
Kumar Shukla to maintain peace
and order and ensure the immediate health check-up of the students. Warden Action: The VIT
management has removed the
hostel warden after the students’
protest escalated.
The In-Charge Minister sternly told the management that the
safety and health of students must
be their supreme priority and that
such incidents must not recur in
the future. She emphasised that
the police and administration are
monitoring the entire matter with
complete vigilance.
