Butibori Police have registered a case against 60 supporters of former MLA Omprakash alias Bachchu Kadu for holding a Dharna and blocking traffic on the Butibori flyover during the ‘Mahaelgar Tractor Morcha’ for farm loan waiver. The complaint was filed by Head Constable Arvind Ratanji Chavan (35).
On October 29, farmers, differently-abled persons, fishermen, shepherds and labourers took out a march under Kadu’s leadership. The march started from Wardha and was heading towards Parsodi in Hingna passing through Butibori.
When the march reached Butibori at around 12.30 pm, Kadu’s supporters, including Dharmaraj Ichkate, Yogesh Satpute, Kamlakar Avachat, Manal Sarate, Kailash Madavi and Amol Dhurve, welcomed him.
Later, these supporters sat in protest on both sides of the flyover, in front of Butibori Police Station on National Highway No. 44. They raised slogans demanding loan waiver and other benefits. Due to this, traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time. Police recorded the protest on video.
After examining the footage, police confirmed the identities of the participants.
On Sunday night, based on the evidence, Butibori Police registered cases against 60 supporters under various sections of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1932, Maharashtra Police Act, National Highways Act 1956 and the BNS.
Speaking about the action, a senior Butibori Police officer said, “We respect the right to protest, but blocking a national highway and causing traffic disruption is a serious offence. People cannot take the law into their own hands.” Another official added, “Further inquiry is underway. More names may be added if we find involvement of additional persons.”
