BJP leader Mujammil Ali is receiving threats after he raised objections to the decision of giving weekly holiday to Anjuman Islamia Waqf Board schools on Friday instead of Sunday
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Cell General Secretary Mujammil Ali has alleged that he received death threats after raising objections to the decision of Anjuman Islamia Waqf Board schools to observe a weekly holiday on Friday instead of Sunday.
Ali claimed that Gohalpur resident Ansari first posted provocative messages on social media and later threatened him over the phone. Ali lodged a written complaint at Omti Police Station. Following his complaint the police have initiated investigation in the matter.
It may be mentioned that Anjuman Islamia Waqf Board runs four schools in Jabalpur. Recently, the board issued an order declaring Friday as the weekly off and keeping schools open on Sunday. On that, Mujammil Ali submitted a written complaint to Collector Raghavendra Singh, saying that the 117-year-old institution had always observed Sunday as its weekly holiday. Acting on the complaint, Deputy Collector
R S Maravi and District Education Officer Ghanshyam Soni visited the school, broke open the locked gates and directed the management to withdraw the order. They instructed Anjuman Islamia Board President Annu Anwar to follow the same schedule as other schools in the district and ensure such changes are not repeated.
Ali alleged that on Sunday night, a post related to his complaint went viral in a WhatsApp group, targeting the BJP leader. He alleged that soon after, Ansari called him and threatened to kill him.
According to Omti police, Mujammil Ali lodged a written complaint stating that he was being threatened with death by a Gohalpur resident. Police have accepted the complaint and started probing the matter.
Meanwhile, Anjuman Islamia Board President Annu Anwar said, “We had made the decision keeping students’ convenience in mind. After instructions from the Education Department, we have withdrawn our order. The weekly holiday in all schools will continue as before, on Sunday.”
