Buldhana Police, on Thursday, detained a doctor, allegedly involved in conducting illegal sex determination tests. A case in this regard has been filed at the Buldhana City Police Station against Dr Kailas Gavai, his wife Dr Kiran Gavai and Abhishek Shelke for violating Sections 33, 33(A) and Section 36 of the Maharashtra Medical Professions Act. Police have detained Dr Kailas Gavai for further questioning.
District health administration and Buldhana City Police had received a confidential information about Dr Kailas Gavai, MD Naturopathy, that he was secretly running an illegal sex determination centre at his residence in Tar Colony in Sundarkhed and also performing illegal abortions.
The district health administration sent a decoy pregnant woman on Thursday to meet Dr Gavai.
District Surgeon Dr Dattatreya Birajdar, Dnyanes-hwar Mule, Ajay Mane and three cops took part in the sting operation during which Dr Kailas Gavai was allegedly caught in the act.
Suspicious medical kits and injections were also seized from his residence. Cops then detained Dr Gavai and took him in for further questioning.
Meanwhile, while the action was taken in the morning, cops took an entire day to file charges, leading to various speculations.
Finally, the process of registering offence was started after 7.30 pm.
