An AI-generated video
of a tiger attacking and killing a man at a rest house in Brahmapuri
Forest Division went viral on social media
n The Forest Department
has appealed to citizens
to ignore such fake videos
and cross check it
The cases of Artificial Intelligence
(AI)-generated wildlife videos in
social media are on the rise, which is
now getting attention of Maharashtra Forest Department as such videos
are spreading misinformation about wildlife behaviour.
The Forest Department has taken
serious cognisance of a video in which a tiger is shown attacking and killing
a man at a rest house in Brahmapuri
Forest Division on October 31 at 6.42 pm.
The video has been widely shared in social media.
The Forest Department issued a press release in which it stated that no such incident had taken place in Brahmapuri Forest Division of Chandrapur Circle.
It also harshly stated that certain anti-social elements are attempting to create unrest among the public by taking advantage of the recent increase in man-animal conflict cases in the Brahmapuri Forest Division.
The Forest Department also appealed to the public not to believe such videos, which are AI-generated.
On directions of the Chief Wildlife Warden, Maharashtra, the Divisional Forest Officer, Brahmapuri Division, is taking serious cognizance of the matter, and stringent legal action will be taken against those responsible for creating and circulating this fake video on social media, stated the press release.
It is second such incident in State in which Forest Department took cognisance of culprits for making and circulating such fake videos on social media. Few days ago, a video went viral on social media in which a drunken man is seen patting a tiger in a village close to Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) with the tiger doing nothing to the person. The PTR management and the Police Department took action against the person who created the AI-generated video and circulated in social media.
