Chhattisgarh has begun its crucial preliminary work for the Census 2027 with a three-day intensive training programme, marking the start of the Pre-Test phase for India’s first-ever fully digital census. This rehearsal is designed to fine-tune every aspect of the massive enumeration exercise before its main rollout. The actual field pre-test will be conducted across selected areas in three districts of Chhattisgarh from November 10 to November 30, 2025. In Raipur District, Ward No. 52 (Dr Rajendra Prasad Ward) of Raipur Municipal Corporation, in Kabirdham District: 26 selected villages in Kukdur Tehsil and in Mahasamund District:
 
24 selected villages in Mahasamund Tehsil. This pre-test focuses on the first phase of the census, known as houselisting and house enumeration. Its objectives are comprehensive: testing the census questions, assessing the data collection methodology, evaluating the effectiveness of training and logistics, and most importantly, identifying any potential problems with the technology and fieldwork.
 
The Census 2027 is set to be fully digital. For the first time, a mobile app will be used for data collection during field work, which is being rigorously tested in this pre-test. Other digital tools under trial include digital mapping, a web portal for real-time monitoring and management, and a self-enumeration option for the public.
 
The self-enumeration window, which allows selected families to enter their own information, was available from November 1 to November 7, 2025. The Census Director noted that based on feedback from this pre-test, the Government of India will make necessary improvements to the mobile app and other processes for the main census. Corporation Headquarters. On the final day, Raipur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vishwadeep addressed the enumerators and supervisors, instructing them to ensure the timely completion of work with “excellence and quality.” Commissioner Vishwadeep, along with Additional Collector Manish Mishra and other senior officials, made a humble appeal to the citizens: to fully cooperate with the administrative staff in the census work.
