Winter chill is back in city as India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more drop in maximum and minimum temperatures in the coming week in Vidarbha. “Snowfall in Northern states in last few days helped to maintain clear sky in Vidarbha which led to drop in temperatures. Along with this, lack of presence of any weather system over Central India and constant flowing of Northerly winds is helping winter chill to prevail over the region,” said Pravin Kumar, Scientist C, Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur here on Friday. The meteorologist predicted that the day and night temperatures will decrease further by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next 5-7 days in Vidarbha.

“The conditions are favourable for drop in day and night temperatures in the region due to ongoing snowfall in the Himalayas. However, formation of any weather system in Bay of Bengal (BoB) in coming days may increase temperatures, but currently, there is no system favourable in BoB that may cause increase in temperature, said the meteorologist. Vidarbha region witnessed the impact of Cyclone ‘Montha’, which brought black clouds and rains in the region in the last week of October.

Now, the winter chill is once again dominating the weather for the last couple of days. On Friday, Nagpur district witnessed the lowest minimum temperature of the season at 15.8 degrees Celsius, so far, which was 3.6 degrees Celsius drop in just 24 hours. Whereas the maximum temperature of Nagpur was 31.2 degrees Celsius. With 13.1 degrees Celsius, Amravati district witnessed the lowest minimum temperature on Friday, with a drop of 3.6 degrees Celsius in just 24 hours.

Yavatmal (14 degrees Celsius), Akola (15.2 degrees Celsius), Buldhana (15.4 degrees Celsius), Bhandara (16 degrees Celsius), Wardha (16.2 degrees Celsius), Gondia (16.6 degrees Celsius), and Washim (18.8 degrees Celsius) recorded the minimum temperature below 2 degrees mark on Friday. Brahmapuri, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts recorded the minimum temperature above 20 degrees Celsius. Despite decent drop in minimum temperature on Friday, the day temperature witnessed nominal drop as all districts recorded an increase in maximum temperature by 3 degrees Celsius.
