Jabalpur woke up to a chilly morning on Friday as minimum temperature dropped to 14.6 degrees Celsius, marking the beginning of a clear winter chill across the region. While days remain sunny and warm, evenings and early mornings have started turning cold, forcing residents to pull out light woollens.
According to the weather department, northern India’s hilly regions have started receiving snowfall, leading to a fall in temperatures across Madhya Pradesh. The chill is expected to intensify over the next 24 to 48 hours as cold winds from the north continue to sweep through the state.
Spokesman of weather department informed that the sky will remain clear for the next four to five days,
with both day and night temperatures likely to dip further. He said that during the last week of October, moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea had raised humidity and daytime temperatures, but now the state has fully entered its winter phase.Reports of snowfall from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have
further contributed to the cold wave. Gulmarg in Baramulla has turned into a white wonderland, while Badrinath and Kedarnath in Uttarakhand are blanketed in snow.
In Himachal’s Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu districts, fresh snowfall has been recorded. Due to these conditions, several districts in Madhya Pradesh have seen a drop of up to 5 degrees Celsius in temperature. The weather department said a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation are active in northern India. Although their direct impact will not be felt in the state, the merging of these systems could further intensify the cold in coming days. In Jabalpur and neighbouring districts, the mercury is expected to slide steadily, signaling that winter has arrived early this November.
