A team of highly skilled medical professionals at Baderia Metro Prime Hospital in Jabalpur has successfully performed an extremely complex and life-saving facial reconstruction surgery on a 14-year-old boy from Katni, who sustained catastrophic injuries in a bomb blast.

The young patient arrived at the hospital in a critical condition, “battling between life and death,” with his entire face severely mangled.

The damage was exceptionally rare and severe, involving over 100 fractured bones in the jaw area, which presented a formidable challenge to surgical repair. Furthermore, the patient’s breathing was severely compromised. Accepting the case as a major surgical challenge, the hospital’s team first addressed the life-threatening airway obstruction.

Dr. Rahul Chaturvedi, an ENT specialist, reportedly created an emergency breathing passage via a tracheostomy (drilling a hole in the throat) before the primary reconstructive procedure could begin.

The subsequent complex surgery, led by the hospital’s qualified team, lasted for five continuous hours. Through this intricate procedure, the doctors successfully repaired the mangled facial structure.

Post-operatively, plastic surgery was performed to restore the child’s face to nearly its original pre-blast appearance, giving him a ‘new lease on life.’ This remarkable achievement has been considered one of the most challenging and successful facial
reconstruction cases of its kind in Jabalpur. It stood as a profound testament to the outstanding expertise of the hospital’s doctors and the high-level medical facilities available at Baderia Metro Prime Hospital.
