A scholarly contribution from Chhattisgarh Police has gained national recognition with the publication of a research-based book authored by IPS Dr Santosh Kumar Singh, DIG (CCTNS/SCRB) at Police Headquarters, Raipur. His book, titled Institutionalization of Peacebuilding, has been released by Delhi-based Manak Publications - a reputed name in academic and policy research circles. Dr Singh, a 2011-batch IPS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, presented copies of the book to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, and Director General of Police (DGP_ Arun Dev Gautam.

The publication focuses on the transformation of United Nations peace initiatives in the 21st century, moving beyond peacekeeping and peacemaking to long-term peacebuilding frameworks aimed at stabilising conflict-torn societies. Drawing upon post-Cold War international experiences, Dr Singh examines how UN peacebuilding missions under the Peacebuilding Commission are strengthening fragile states, rebuilding institutions, and promoting inclusive governance in post-conflict zones. The book blends theoretical frameworks with ground realities, offering comparative insights into peace models from across the globe.

The author, an accomplished academician besides being a police officer, holds a PhD from Hemchand Yadav University, Durg. He completed his MPhil in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where his dissertation explored the participation of developing nations in the UN Security Council.

He also earned his MA in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. India, Dr Singh notes, ranks among the world’s top three contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, having participated in 49 missions since 1950 with nearly two lakh peacekeepers. His book underlines the growing relevance of India’s commitment to global peace and the lessons it holds for achieving durable stability within domestic conflict zones as well.
