Another winter morning, another new learning !
I was in my yoga class. It was breezy and cold. We did a little bit of warm up to get going and the instructor told us to do Vrikshasana- which basically means to stand on one leg and have the other one folded, resting the sole on your inner thigh. This pose is done to enhance your balance and coordination. Needless to say, we started struggling to balance our bodies on one leg.
The instructor shouted, “Focus on something fixed, which is not moving and the body will maintain the balance without you trying.” I followed, focussing on the logo on the air-conditioner in the room.
There I go standing taller, spine straight and with the perfect balance, no swinging, no dancing to the left and right or struggling to keep my feet stable on the ground. But the moment I shift my thoughts to whose entering the yoga room, or where is the noise coming from, or who is doing the pose better, I lose my focus, lose my grip and here I go swinging left and right fighting for balance again.
We have many such days when we feel the hours are less and the work more, everything is a priority and the entire time gets wasted in procrastinating where, when and how. Begin with focus, what is your non-movable point?
Is it an upcoming deadline which cannot be shifted or your core values, is it the people you love, your morning routine ? Focus on that and the rest will follow, and you will be unshakable and more steady just like the vrikshasana pose.
Multi-tasking, coordination and balance on a very difficult and chaotic day solved with just one skill focus. The moment distraction and external noise gets your attention, you will lose the balance, get distracted and you will be swayed with multiple thoughts on how its so difficult to complete the series of tasks.
So cut the noise, fix your eyes on the non-movable and let balance and coordination take the centrestage!
