Madhya Pradesh continued to reel under winter chill on Tuesday as the State’s lowest minimum temperature of 4.7°C was recorded in Kalyanpur (Shahdol), marking sharpest dip of the season. Other significantly cold locations included Pachmarhi (5.0°C), Rajgarh (5.6°C), Girvar–Shajapur and Nowgong–Chhatarpur (6.0°C), and Indore (6.1°C).
On the other end of the spectrum, relatively milder night temperatures were reported from Kannod (14.1°C), Amarkantak (13.7°C), Agar (13.6°C), Narmadapuram (12.0°C), and Sagar (11.8°C).
In the last 24 hours, weather remained dry across all divisions of the State, with no rainfall reported anywhere. Maximum temperature rose marginally by 2.2°C to 3.3°C in parts of Narmadapuram and Sagar divisions, while remaining largely unchanged elsewhere. Despite this slight rise,
day temperature stayed below normal by 1.8°C to 2.9°C in Indore and Ujjain divisions, whereas other divisions recorded normal values.
Minimum temperature, too, showed no major change Statewide, but continued to remain appreciably below normal by 3.0°C to 4.6°C in Bhopal and Indore divisions, and below normal by 1.6°C to 2.3°C in Narmadapuram, Ujjain, Rewa, Jabalpur and Sagar divisions. Coolest daytime conditions were noted in Malanjhkhand (23.8°C), Chitrakoot (24.1°C), Narsinghpur (25.0°C), Amarkantak (25.4°C) and Girvar (25.6°C), while warmest maximum temperature of 31.4°C was recorded in Narmadapuram, followed by Mandla (30.0°C), Sagar (29.6°C), Berasia/Vidisha (29.5°C) and Bhairunda (29.1°C).
A cold wave continued to impact Bhopal, Rajgarh, Indore and Shajapur districts, with fresh warnings issued for isolated pockets in Bhopal, Vidisha, Sehore, Rajgarh, Indore, Shajapur, Jabalpur, and Seoni. Raisen district is likely to experience a severe cold day at isolated locations. Synoptic conditions indicate presence of a western disturbance as a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies along 81°E north of 23°N, while a strong subtropical westerly jet stream, with core winds reaching 222 km/h at 12.6 km altitude, prevails over North India.
Although the current system is weak over Madhya Pradesh, a fresh but feeble western disturbance may influence western Himalayan region from December 13, potentially shaping weather patterns later. Until then, dry weather is expected to continue across all districts. In Bhopal, cold tightened its grip with a minimum temperature of 7.2°C, which is 5°C below normal, and a maximum of 27.0°C, slightly below average by 0.9°C. Morning humidity stood high at 85%, dropping to 43% by evening and no rainfall was recorded.
Clear skies with light haze prevailed and winds blew at 6–8 km/h, contributing to the chill during early hours. Forecast for next 24 hours suggests clear skies and haze, with temperature expected around 27°C/7°C.
