The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation carried out a major anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday and removed a large number of illegal temporary and permanent structures. The drive conducted on main roads and crowded market places where roadside structures had been obstructing traffic. The drive started in the Adhartal area and continued across several busy zones. Additional Commissioner Arvind Shah informed that the anti-encroachment squad first cleared tin sheds along the Milk Scheme Road near Adhartal crossing.

Two carts, three iron cots, chairs, tables and other material were seized. Similar action was taken from Beoharbagh to Raza Chowk and further towards Katra. Encroachments near Shastri Bridge were also removed and on-the-spot fines were issued to people found littering. Similarly, encroachments blocking road construction work on Tilwara Road were also cleared. These included a large stone sculptor’s makeshift shed and structures near Agha Chowk Karbala. Temporary kiosks near the Engineering College were also removed to free the road.

Senior officials of the Municipal Corporation also issued final warnings through announcements by public address system from Damohnaka to Gohalpur police station, Amkhera Road, Adhartal Birsa Munda Chowk market and Suhagi. People were urged to remove encroachments on their own. The same announcements were repeated on the return route from Birsa Munda Chowk to Milk Scheme Road, Raza Chowk, Bahurabag and Raddi Chowki up to Ghamapur Chowk. The aim was to prevent repeat encroachments and keep the roads clear. Senior Officials said the campaign will continue in other parts of the city to ensure smoother traffic movement.
