State’s Hirabai Baghel gets Handicrafts Awardfrom President Murmu

President of India Droupadi Murmu presented National Handicrafts Awards for year 2023 to Hirabai Jhareka Baghel, hailing from Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district of Chhattisgarh, in a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi Tuesday. Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh presided over the function. The award ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Addressing the programme, President Murmu said that art reflects our memories of the past, experiences of the present, and aspirations for the future.
 
Humans have been expressing their emotions through painting or sculpture since ancient times. Art connects people to culture. Art also connects people with each other, she added. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated Hirabai Jhareka Baghel. Sai wrote on his X, “It is a moment of great pride for the entire Chhattisgarh that Dhokra-Bell Metal craftswoman Hirabai Jhareka Baghel of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district was honoured with the National Handicraft Award by President of India Droupadi Murmu Ji at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
 
This achievement of Mrs. Baghel, who came from the forest village Panchayat Baigindih and gave new heights to the identity of Chhattisgarh across the country with her unique metal art and she re-establishes the shine of our rich folk art, tradition and rural talent on the national stage.” “This is an honour for every craftsman in Chhattisgarh. Our government is continuously committed to art preservation, training, and market expansion. Hearty congratulations to Mrs. Baghel and best wishes for a bright future,” he added.
