A major security lapse was reported in Kolar area of the capital, where two Bangladeshi nationals, Mohammad Maqbool Alam and Rehan Ansari, successfully acquired Indian passports by using forged identity documents while residing on rent. The fraud came to light after Security and Intelligence Departments issued an alert letter to the police.
Kolar police have registered an FIR in the case under sections related to fraud and the Indian Passport Act.
Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra confirmed that further investigation has been handed over to ACP (Chunabhatti) Anjali Raghuvanshi.
He stated that action will be taken against concerned police personnel if evidence of negligence is found during the document verification process for the foreign nationals.
Rental agreement used as basis for forged IDs: According to reports, Bangladeshi nationals, Mohammad Maqbool Alam and Rehan Ansari, were renting a house in Raj Vaidya Colony on Kolar Road. Landlady, Laxmi Thakur, issued a notarised rent agreement to them for 11 months in August 2017. It is reported that both lived at the same address for approximately 5 to 7 years.
During this period, they allegedly misused this rent agreement to procure forged Aadhaar aards and Voter IDs.
Subsequently, both used these forged documents to apply for
Indian passports. The fraud was not detected during police verification, allowing them to successfully obtain Indian passports. However, on November 14, 2023, the Passport Office wrote a letter to police confirming that both were Bangladeshi nationals who had fraudulently acquired Indian passports.
Police investigation also revealed that neither of the two is currently residing at the given address, and the mobile numbers provided in the passports are switched off.Intelligence agencies are warning that Bhopal is increasingly being used as a hideout by terrorist networks. Over the last three years, suspects associated with Syria-based groups, JMB (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh), PFI (Popular Front of India), and HuT (Hizb-ut-Tahrir) have been arrested here. Agencies claim that these extremists often procure forged documents to blend into densely populated areas.
