VIDARBHA recovered from a horrendous start to post a healthy score of 313-7 on the opening day of their three-day U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Tripura at JNN College of Engineering, Ground in Shimoga on Friday. Tripura’s decision to bowl first appeared to have paid off after their new-ball bowlers reduced Vidarbha to 18-4 inside nine overs. Manav Wakode and Om Dhotre steadied the ship with a 104-run stand for the fifth wicket before the latter was dismissed for 61.

 

Wakode and Arjun Mahajan added another 48 runs before the former fell two runs short of his half-century. Mahajan joined forces with Nirmik Charde to take the score to 213 before falling for 67. Nirmik (64*) and Veer Chikhalkar (46*) added 100 runs for the eighth wicket to put Vidarbha on firm footing.
