ARVIND Gorle runs an automobile workshop and has driven, fixed and restored several vehicles in his life but only his Willys Jeep CJ3 of 1958 holds a special place in his heart.
The 65-year-old Gorle, known by friends as ‘Bandu Bhau’, received the Steel Grey coloured 1563 CC vehicle as a gift from his friend Purvesh Patel 11 years ago and has been a cherished part of his life ever since, still retaining its original colour.
The left-hand drive Willys Jeep traces its origins back to The USA in 1940s and boasts a 4x4 Hurricane Engine running on petrol.
Its iconic, rugged design became the blueprint for the modern SUVs we see today.
The 1958 CJ3 is the civilian version of this legendary World War machine and was Gorle’s first choice to learn driving on.
“This Jeep is not just a vehicle, it is an emotion. It was the first vehicle on which I learned driving. During my childhood, I always dreamt of off-roading in a Jeep, and today that dream continues to live with me through this machine,
” Gorle informed.
Servicing and repairs of this vintage piece has never been an issue as Gorle himself gives special notice to its maintenance as he said, “Repairing it has never been an issue. Every part, every nut and bolt is within reach and manageable, a true blessing when it comes to vintage vehicles.
”
For Gorle, vintage automobiles are like senior members of the family: “They carry stories, memories, and emotions across generations. When people, young or old, talk about the vehicles of their time, they don’t just speak about machines, they share nostalgia, pride and moments that shaped their lives. My Willys Jeep is exactly that, a timeless piece of history, a trusted companion, and a precious gift that I will always cherish,” Gorle signed off.
