National Lok Adalat sees record disposal of over 21,000 cases

The National Lok Adalat held at the District Court, Bhopal, on Saturday witnessed resolution of a large number of pending and pre-litigation cases, as part of an initiative guided by the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, and the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Jabalpur.
 
The Lok Adalat functioned with 60 benches, involving judges, senior officers, advocates, paralegal volunteers, court staff, and law students. A total of 21,295 cases were resolved, including 4,108 pending “taken-up” cases. Out of these, 3,959 pending cases were successfully disposed of. Pre-litigation cases numbered 17,445, of which 17,336 were resolved. Cases related to cheque bounce, motor accident claims, criminal settlements,
 
family disputes, bank recovery, consumer disputes, electricity matters, labor issues, and property tax/water charges were also addressed. Among the success stories, a long-standing marital dispute registered in February 2019 was amicably settled. After a year of separation, the husband and wife agreed to live together following reconciliation efforts during the Lok Adalat. In another case, the family of Rajkumar Yadav,
 
who died in a road accident on August 23, 2024, received a settlement of Rs 50 lakh through the Lok Adalat, from an initial claim of Rs 1.61 crore under the Motor Vehicles Act. The settlement was facilitated in the presence of the presiding judge, advocates, and representatives of the insurance company.
