5,000 encroachments regularised in Amravati district

Amravati :

In a major push towards the ‘Housing for All’ mission, the government has undertaken extensive measures to ensure that every eligible citizen has access to a permanent home. As part of this initiative, encroachments that existed prior to January 1, 2011, particularly in urban areas, are being regularised as per norms. In Amravati district alone, more than 5,000 such encroachments have been regularised, benefiting citizens from both urban and rural areas. Under the ‘Housing for All’ scheme, a total of 2,812 encroachments within the limits of Amravati Municipal Corporation (AMC) have been regularised so far, completing the process of providing rightful homes to beneficiaries.

Additionally, in various municipalities across the district, land ownership has been granted to 920 beneficiaries, enabling approval of housing under government schemes. In rural areas, around 1,200 beneficiaries have already availed benefits under the scheme. The ‘Housing for All’ initiative, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to provide housing to all sections of society. In line with this vision, the State Government has launched an ambitious programme to regularise encroachments that existed on government land prior to January 1, 2011, for individuals who are otherwise eligible for housing schemes but lack ownership of land.

Under this programme, beneficiaries eligible under schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ramai Awas Yojana, and other housing schemes, but who could not avail benefits due to lack of land ownership, are now being considered for regularisation. After submission of valid proof of encroachment prior to the cutoff date, such encroachments are being regularised, thereby enabling beneficiaries to obtain legal land rights and construct houses through government assistance.

Chandrashekhar Bawan-kule, Guardian Minister of the district directed district authorities to implement the scheme on a war footing. The programme earlier faced hurdles due to a stay order issued by the High Court. However, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, in his capacity as Revenue Minister, pursued the matter at the state level. After submission of detailed and well-documented arguments, the High Court lifted the stay, removing a major obstacle in the implementation of the scheme.

Ashish Yerekar, Collector, has also emphasised priority implementation of the scheme. Demonstrating swift administrative action, he approved a list of 305 eligible beneficiaries submitted by the Municipal Corporation committee within a single day last week. As a result, all eligible cases from the Municipal Corporation have now received district-level approval, paving the way for immediate allotment of land titles. Currently, no cases related to this scheme are pending at the District Collector’s office. Considering the significant benefits of the scheme, the Municipal Corporation and district administration have appealed to eligible citizens to take benefit of this opportunity.

Prompt action As part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana land allotment programme, AMC submitted a proposal for 305 eligible beneficiaries from 8 settlements to the District Collector's office on December 8. Showing prompt action, Ashish Yerekar, Collector, convened a meeting on December 9 and approved the proposal. This decision has immediately cleared the way for government land allotment for housing construction for all 305 beneficiaries.
