West Central Railway’s Miyana Railway Station has been honoured with the prestigious National Energy Conservation Award (NECA) 2025 for its outstanding initiatives in energy conservation. The award was presented by President of India, Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held on Sunday at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The award was received by Shobhana Bandopadhyay, General Manager, West Central Railway.
This prestigious national award is conferred by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, which recognises exemplary efforts in energy conservation, adoption of innovative technologies, effective energy management and sustainable development across the country. The award is granted only after a rigorous evaluation process, verification of actual energy savings and detailed scrutiny of technical documentation, further enhancing its credibility and significance.
Miyana Railway Station of Bhopal Division achieved this distinction through the successful implementation of LED-based energy-efficient lighting systems, installation of BLDC fans, and operation of smart lighting circuits functioning at 30–70% capacity, resulting in annual electricity savings of more than 10,000 units.
Congratulating the team on this proud achievement, General Manager Shobhana Bandopadhyay said that this day marks a historic milestone for West Central Railway.
She appreciated the efforts of the Principal Chief Electrical Engineer at Headquarters, the Divisional Railway Manager, Bhopal and all officers of the division and headquarters for securing the National Energy Conservation Award (NECA 2025) from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
This achievement was made possible through the technical guidance and continuous monitoring of Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (General), Bhopal Division, Sanjay Manoria. Under his leadership, the entire Electrical (General) Department team ensured effective and timely execution of all energy conservation projects.
Key initiatives included regular energy audits, scientific load analysis of power consumption, station-wise energy profiling, staff training and awareness campaigns on energy conservation and phased implementation of energy-efficient technologies. The accomplishment was further strengthened by the visionary leadership, policy support, and encouragement of innovative measures by DRM, Pankaj Tyagi, which significantly accelerated energy efficiency improvement initiatives in the division. Through these combined efforts, Miyana Railway Station has earned national recognition in the field of energy conservation.
