'A DISASTERmock drill featuring live demonstrations of various types of fire was con ducted by fire-fighting personnel at Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK)on Monday. The on-site disaster mock drill was organised at Geetayan Ground under the chairman ship of the Chief General Manager, Ordnance Factory Khamaria, Shailesh Vagerwal. The programme was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Sushma Vagerwal, President of MIL (WWA) Khamaria Branch. As part of the awareness initiative, Ordnance Factory Khamaria theatre group presented a play aimed at promoting safety consciousness among factory employees.
 
The play emphasised giving top priority to workplace safety, adopting safe work practices, following standard safety procedures and preventing potential hazards. Subsequently, Fire Services Department, OFK conducted the disaster mock drill. During the drill, fire-fighting personnel gave live demonstrations of handling different types of fire, providing practical knowledge on fire prevention and control to employees and local residents present at the venue. For the purpose of the drill, various structures were created using scrap material to simulate real-life emergency situations.
 
Scenarios such as electrical fires, chemical fires, gas cylinder fires and fires caused by flammable substances were demonstrated under near-real conditions. The fire-fighting team explained the selection of appropriate fire extinguishers for different types of fires and demonstrated their correct usage, highlighting that a single method is not effective for all kinds of fires. The demonstrations also covered safe evacuation without panic, the importance of first aid and timely communication with emergency services during fire incidents.
 
The primary objective of the mock drill was to create aware ness among employees and the general public about quick response, safe rescue, and effective control measures during various fire-related emergencies. Addressing the gathering, Chief General Manager Shailesh Vagerwal said that such mock drills not only test the preparedness of the factory’s fire-fighting personnel but also enhance safety aware ness among the general public. He emphasized that adherence to safety rules is essential not only for personal safety but also for strengthening organizational productivity and work culture.
 
He appealed to all participants to strictly follow safety norms and con tribute to a safe and secure working environment. The mock drill was attend ed by the Principal Director, OFIL, senior officers of Ordnance Factory Khamaria, members of the Women Welfare Committee, representatives of unions and associations, Central Safety Committee, Canteen Committee, Hospital Committee, other committees, employees and residents of Khamaria Estate.
