VBA fetes Ruai Gold Cup winners

 

VIDARBHA Bridge Association felicitated members of Team Mohota who won the 67th Ashok Ruia Gold Cup during the Winter National Bridge Championships in Kolkata recently. Team Mohota was led by Anurag Mohota which also had Basant Kumar Mohota, both from Nagpur and the duo of Biswajit Poddar and Shambhu Nath Ghosh (both from Kolkata). Chief guest Dr Vinky Rughwani, who felicitated Basant and Anurag, encouraged the players and also talked about involving IMA as many doctors play the game. Speaking on the occasion, Anurag said, “Most teams in Gold event have professional bridge players but members of Team Mohota are all businessmen and not professionals. We concentrated on playing percentage bridge which helped us beat most teams in the league stage and in the knock-outs too.”

 

He highlighted beating Indian Railways A who have in the last few years won the title or been runners-up. In a tournament that was also held on the occasion, Team Mohota, represented by Basant, Anurag, Anil Mohota and Shailendra Chajjed emerged champion with 103.2 VP. Playwell, including Niraj Kumra, Sanjeev Kumra, Amit Rewatkar and Sudhir Iyer ended runners-up at 85.95 VP. Third prize went to Four Aces consisting of Sundermurthy, PK Kar, Dr Sandeep Khanzode and Air Commodore Dilip Mandpe with 68.21 VP.
