IN A significant step towards simplifying public services, the process of issu
ing birth and death certificates in
Chhattisgarh has been made com
pletely online, ensuring greater trans
parency, ease and accessibility for cit
izens. Birth and death certificates
across the state are now being issued
exclusively through an online portal.
This system has become operational
following the successful implementa
tion of the revised online portal intro
duced in 2023 by the Office of the
Registrar General of India, New Delhi.
As per the amended Registration of
Births and Deaths Act, 1969, for all
children born after October 2023, the
birth certificate will be the sole valid
document as proof of date of birth. This
has brought clarity and uniformity to
identity-related procedures. For chil
dren born before October 2023, alter
native documents will continue to
remain valid, as per existing provi
sions. In addition, birth and death cer
tificates issued earlier in offline mode
can now be securely digitised and pre
served through the online portal.
Since October 2023, all birth certificates in the state have been issued
online. Initial technical challenges
encountered during the rollout were
addressed in a timely manner, and the
portal is now fully functional and tech
nologically robust. The Office of the
Registrar General of India continues
to provide necessary technical sup
port and guidance at regular intervals
to ensure smooth operations.
To further strengthen this system,
all Registrars of Births and Deaths
across the state have been provided
requisite training in portal operations.
Regular district-level training programmes are also being conducted as
needed, so that citizens do not face
any inconvenience during the certificate issuance process. The State gov
ernment has also requested all con
cerned agencies to issue clear guidelines to ensure uniformity in
procedures related to Aadhaar card
enrollment. This step is aimed at
enabling citizens to receive accurate
and timely documentation without
unnecessary delays. This initiative
marks an important milestone in the
expansion of digital services in
Chhattisgarh, enhancing administra
tive efficiency while placing citizen
convenience at the forefront. Through
this reform, residents are now bene
fiting from faster, safer and more reli
able public services.
