A DRIVE is currently underway in the State, as per the Gove rnment decision dated Septe mber 16, 2025 regarding cancel lation of invalid and delayed birth and death records. During the drive, a large number of suspi cious records have been found in the Birth and Death Registration (CRS) system of Shendursani Gram Panchayat in Yavatmal’s Arni taluka. While the matter is being investigated, it is suspected to be a case of cyber fraud. During the inspection by Extension Officer (Health) of Arni, as many as 27,398 birth records and 11 death records were found on the CRS software of Shendursani Gram Panchayat.

It is noteworthy that the popu lation of the said Gram Panchayat is about 1,500. The high number of birth records is therefore alarming. The District Health Officer and District Registrar (Birth-Death) immediately informed Chief Executive Officer of Yavatmal Zilla Parishad. Considering seriousness of the matter, the CEO formed an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Panchayat) and ordered it to visit Shendursani Gram Panchayat and conduct a thorough inves tigation. After the investigation, it was found that 27,397 birth records and 7 death records were not in the Gram Panchayat area but were suspi cious and it was clear that it was impossible to register such a large number through the Gram Panchayat.

The matter was sent to the Deputy Director of Health Services (AMAJIA), Pune for tech nical investigation. After check ing from the state level login, it was found that the CRS ID of Shendursani Gram Panchayat was mapped to Mumbai. The matter was sent to the Additional Registrar General of India and National Informatics Centre (NIC), Delhi. As per the techni cal inspection report received on December 11, it has been clari fied that the said records are under possibility of cyber fraud. In this case, the District Health Officer, Yavatmal has registered a case at the City Police Station, Yavatmal. Meanwhile, the District Health Officer and District Registrar (Births and Deaths), Yavatmal, has appealed all registrars of births and deaths in the district not to share their CRS ID, password and OTP with anyone and to immediately report any suspicious matter to the district level.
