THE Congress corporators have
accused the Mayor and the rul
ing BJP of deliberately avoiding
discussion on major civic issues
during the General House meet
ing of the Jabalpur Municipal
Corporation, on Thursday. Leader of Opposition Amrish
Mishra said instead of taking up
listed agenda items, the House
proceedings were diverted into
unnecessary debate, leading to
wastage of valuable time.
He said several pressing issues
affecting the city were left undiscussed. These included irreg
ular door-to-door garbage col
lection, pending works under
councillors’ development funds,
alleged corruption involving out
sourced employees, delays in
converting leasehold properties
to freehold, continued burning
of garbage at the Kathonda plant
for several days and the long
pending Gohalpur culvert con
struction.
They said these mat
ters directly impact citizens and
should have been debated in the
House. The Congress leaders claimed
that the General House was
adjourned hastily to sidestep dis
cussion on governance failures
and public grievances. They said
such an approach reflects the
ruling dispensation’s reluctance
to face questions on civic man
agement and service delivery.
The Congress Corporators said
since the issues could not be
raised effectively in the House,
they would take them directly to
the people through a ‘parallel
House’ forum. They said this plat
form would be used to highlight
public interest issues and keep
citizens informed about matters
concerning municipal gover
nance.
