IN A significant advancement for
academic landscape of Madhya
Pradesh, Department of Higher
Education has formally selected
Government Science College,
Jabalpur, for elevation to Deemed
University status. This designation, communicated via official
correspondence on Thursday,
positioned the institution as a
premier centre for autonomous
academic excellence within the
State. The transition towards university status originated several
months ago with the submission
of of a comprehensive institutional proposal.
This strategic vision was formally presented at the Ministry
in Bhopal on May 29, 2025, by
Dr R K Srivastava, the college’s
IQAC Coordinator and Nodal
Officer.
Dr Shrivastava while talking with ‘The Hitavada’ updat
ed that the selection was predicated on a multifaceted evaluation of the institution’s
performance metrics, including
Academic Quality to maintain
high standards in pedagogy and
curriculum development,
Accreditation (consistent excellence reflected in NAAC accreditation rankings), Research &
Infrastructure to ensure robust
output in scientific research and
the presence of advanced laboratory and instructional facili
ties, Faculty Composition (A
favorable student-teacher ratio
and high caliber of the resident
teaching staff).
Principal Dr Shikha Saxena
characterised the achievement
as a historic milestone, noting
that the Deemed University status is a unique distinction that
will benefit the academic profile
of the entire Mahakaushal region.
Key contributors to the proposal’s success included Nodal
Officer Dr R K Srivastava and Co
coordinator Dr Jyoti Srivastava,
whose technical expertise in
IQAC framework was instrumental in navigating the
Government’s stringent criteria.
Principal Dr Saxena said that
this achievement is a testament
to collective dedication of our
academic community and represents a transformative shift for
higher education in this region.
Government Science College,
Jabalpur, is one of the three institutions selected for this transition, alongside TRA College,Rewa, and the Institute of
Excellence in Higher
Education (IEHE), Bhopal.
Following the State’s endorsement, the final phase of the
transition will involve formal
application and verification
through the University Grants
Commission (UGC) portal.
This process will be conduct
ed online in accordance with
established federal guidelines
to formalise the institutional
autonomy.
