NATIONAL Students’ Union of
India (NSUI) staged a significant
symbolic protest at Rani
Durgavati University (RDU),
demanding removal of current
Vice-Chancellor and criticising
prevailing administrative and
academic state of the institution
on Thursday. During a scheduled Executive
Council meeting, NSUI activists,
led by Jabalpur District President
Sachin Rajak, gathered at Ekatma
Bhawan. In a symbolic gesture,
protesters released parrots from
the cage to represent their
demand for the university’s liberation from what they termed
the ‘clutches of an incompetent
Vice-Chancellor.’
The protest was joined by the
hostellers and NCC cadets also.
The demonstration encountered
immediate friction as universi
ty security reportedly locked the
gates of main building to prevent
protestors’ entry, leading to a
tense standoff. NSUI leadership presented a
formal list of grievances directed at Vice-Chancellor, Professor
Rajesh Kumar Verma, which
included issues like institution
al mis-management, misleading
the State Legislative Assembly
by providing false information
about availability of resources
for technical courses and a severe
deficit in permanent teaching
staff, which has resulted in the
collapse of research culture and
the suspension of academic journals.
They also claimed that cours
es in Agriculture, Journalism, and
Engineering are being operated
without adhering to AICTE and
ICAR standards, lacking essen
tial laboratories, software and
infrastructure. The protest underscored the
deteriorating examination sys
tem and failure to maintain academic calendar. He further not
ed that the current leadership
faces pending legal challenges in
court. The NSUI has issued a formal warning that unless immediate reforms are implemented
to prioritize student interests,
the organization will escalate its
agitation.
